"Golden Poppies" was inspired by Faulkner's "A Rose For Emily." The point is suppose to be about the death of traditional religion and the birth of spiritualism. "Windhoover" is a journal published by Mary Hardin-Baylor.

Mother's Day, Part I of II
From: "Pacific Review" (Volume 20, 2002)
Read It Online Here
"Mother's Day, Part I" was the first story in a fragmented collection of stories about an Orange County family. I still hope that one day I'll finish it. I knew the footnotes would make a lot of people say 'that's too David Foster Wallace.' I almost considered taking them out just to prevent this from happening, but I knew it needed it. "The Pacific Review" is published by Cal State San Bernardino. This was the leading short story in the Fall 2002 journal. Click here to subscribe to the "Pacific Review."
